In the previous post, I shared about how to catch the stories in your mind.
Here are a few tips on how to catch yourself when your emotions and stories are overwhelming you. They will bring you back to the present moment.
Tip 1: Use your breath: inhale for 2 counts and exhale for 4 counts, do this for 2 minutes and experience how your body and mind start relaxing
Tip 2: Move your body: do some stretches, jump up and down, shake your body to bring movement into your body, so that energy starts flowing
Tip 3: Bring the energy of the stories and emotions to your body as physical sensations: envision them as pain or tension in a particular area of your body, making it easier to step out of your own drama.
Tip 4: Go into nature: feel the fresh air or sunlight, walk barefoot, or touch a plant or tree and connect with your body, to calm down your mind
It is a great beneficial practice to do the free flow writing journaling exercise and/or the asking powerful questions afterward.
